WINNER OF FRINGE FURNITURE 2014 BEST STUDENT DESIGN AWARD
Monkey Bars by design incorporates the whimsy of difference like a monkey's playground; the legs like 'monkey bars', the functionality of a tabletop, bench, hall stand, or plant stand. It's an imagination of functions, no unilateral purpose by design. This is new furniture.
The ceramics element has been handcrafted to function as a planter, an ideal way to bring life to indoors. The geometric shapes featured in the ceramic element are reflected in the shapes of the metal legs. The legs have been designed for flat-pack ability so it is easily shipped, stored and moved.
Hidden storage beneath the sliding element breaks up the long table top. The Bamboo's natural tones are highlighted against the satin white ceramics and the subtle periwinkle shade of the sliding element and legs.
Clean lines and natural tones combine to form an elegant, elementally androgynous piece.
Materials - Carbonised narrow grain bamboo, bright steel bar. Finished with natural oil and periwinkle powdercoat.
Measurements – 1200mm x 360mm x 880mm

Nature’s ability to regenerate itself by using matter as nutrient has inspired the exploration of an unlikely waste material being used in this piece. Discarded human hair has been combined with Bio Resin to form an environmentally friendly composite material that can be used and worked like timber.
Postiche is born from this exploration.
Creating objects of everyday function from a discarded material references nature’s capacity forrenewal, evolution & beauty in refinement.
Mechelle Shooter designs all of her pieces, makes them in limited runs and finishes them by hand.
Postiche Table is made from Bamboo, mild steel, Bio Resin and human hair.
Copper Side Table
The Copper Side Table is inspired by the simple camping stool. This project is an exploration into combining the warmth of timber, raw metals and simple hand finishes. The table is designed to be flat packed and made in small batches.
Materials: The Tasmanian Blackwood top and the Victorian Ash dowel legs have been finished with beeswax and the Copper tube and brass pins are finished with a clear coat.
SB Tripod Raw Stool
SB Raw Stool is inspired by the simple camping stool. This project is an exploration into combining the warmth of timber and leather with raw metals and simple hand finishes. The stool is designed to be flat packed and made in small batches.
Materials: The vegetable tan leather has been hand cut and finished with burnished beeswax edges. The Victorian Ash dowel legs have been finished with beeswax and the welded semi bright steel tube and copper pins are finished with a clear coat.
SB Tripod Stool
The SB Tripod Stool is inspired by the simple camping stool and through my appreciation of being at one with nature, along with the respect I have for the texture of timber. If a creation from timber can in any way be a homage to its former majesty in nature, then surely a simple demonstration of this is fitting.
The SB Stool has at its origins a simple purpose. Through its creation, in taking from nature, it actually gives back with its simplicity, its beauty and a duality in its personality. A piece of nature you find in the urbane environment; a very transcendence. Its purpose a juxtaposition. It may seem odd to find a timber camping stool back in nature, but you'd not questions its belonging, as you wouldn't in the urbane rough.
The SB Stool is a prototype made and finished with attention to detail, the components held in place with tension when being used easily slip apart for flat-pack ability. So it is easily shipped, stored, moved and cleaned. The SB Tripod stool is as much at home in the urbane environment as it is amongst nature.
Leather Lash Planter has been designed around the idea of using an unusual material, leather in this case, as hardware. A continuous piece of leather has been used to lash the triangular elements together as well as provide the hanging straps forming the elegant planter.
Materials - Leather (waste from industry), Plywood, masonite and dowel (waste from industry).
